Upcoming Events

Waterstones, Dumfries

I’ll be promoting my book Restless Lanes, at the Waterstones in Dumfries on the 15th October 2026 at 6pm.

Come along and hear me chat about my relationship with cycling, the adventure itself, and the struggles I encountered along the way. You even get to ask some questions afterwards if you like. No need to book. Just turn up!

Hello there . . .

. . . and welcome to my website. I’m Richard Warrick, smallholder by day, aspiring writer by night, and partaker of small-scale adventures when my anxiety allows.

RESTLESS LANES

AN ANXIOUS CYCLE FROM ONE END OF BRITAIN TO THE OTHER

Restless Lanes follows my adventures over two weeks from Land’s End to John o’ Groats. From terrifying dual carriageway encounters, battering storms, and crippling loneliness, my story also captures moments of sheer joy, breathtaking landscapes, and forgotten histories.

Restless Lanes is my first book and is available now in both paperback (£10.99) and eBook (£3.99).

“For cyclists who value curiosity over competition and stories over statistics, Richard Warrick has produced an engaging and thoughtful addition to the cycling travel genre.”

Bike Magazine

“. . .if you are looking for a genuinely entertaining read that’s informative, sad and funny at times where you end up rooting for the main character to complete the ride then Restless Lanes is the book you should read.”

Short Stories & Articles

I also publish articles and short stories on Medium. These cover a range of subjects, but mostly centre on the environment and the (im)practicalities of running a smallholding. So expect anything from the possibilities of localised economies to the viability of installing a ram pump . . .

Films & Shorts

I have written screenplays, and occasionally they are adapted into films. I also film shorts covering the things that I love, mostly cycling and walking in wild places.
